Fabuwood cabinets in Northern Virginia: the short answer
- “In stock” covers three different things. Sitting on the local floor, held in the manufacturer’s stock, or built to order. Same brand, same showroom, same conversation.
- Our published figure is in stock or available in 5 to 7 days. That applies to the Fabuwood lines we carry at Fairfax and Alexandria. It is not a promise that every finish in the catalogue moves that fast.
- Get the ship date in writing before you sign. A verbal “should be quick” is not a date and nobody can be held to it.
- Ask what happens if one box is short. Whether an order ships complete or in waves decides whether your installer can start at all.
- Do not demolish the old kitchen until the new one is in the building. This is the most expensive mistake in the whole process and it is entirely avoidable.

What “in stock” really means on a Fabuwood order
Walk into any Northern Virginia showroom, ask whether a cabinet is in stock, and you will get a yes. The yes is usually honest. It is also ambiguous, because the phrase covers three situations, and the distance between the first and the third is the difference between cooking in your own kitchen next week and cooking in it in November.

Fabuwood sits in an unusual place here, and it works in your favour. Components are sourced globally, but assembly, modification and shipping all happen at the company’s facility in Newark, New Jersey, roughly four hours up I-95. Your order is picked, finished and dispatched from there rather than from a port. That short final leg is much of why a semi-custom cabinet can be quoted in days at all, and why the gap between state two and state three is narrower for Fabuwood than for most brands you will be shown alongside it.
What it does not mean is that every finish in the catalogue behaves the same way. A dealer carries a selection, not the whole book. The finishes we keep moving through Fairfax and Alexandria are the ones with local demand behind them.
Point at something outside that selection and you have quietly moved from state two to state three. Nobody says so out loud.
Why a lead time guess costs you a kitchen, not a week
If a cabinet order slipped quietly by three weeks and nothing else depended on it, you would shrug and wait. A kitchen does not work like that. Everything downstream of the boxes is scheduled off the boxes.
The countertop cannot be templated until the base cabinets are installed and level, because the template is taken off the actual cabinets rather than off the drawing. Fabrication then takes its own time after templating. The plumber comes back after the countertop, because the sink cannot be set until there is something to set it into. The electrician’s second visit sits behind the same queue. Tile, if you are doing a backsplash, waits on the countertop too.
So three weeks on the cabinets is rarely three weeks on the kitchen. It is three weeks plus however long it takes to get four separate trades back into your calendar, and none of them held the slot open for you. Families who expected to be cooking by Thanksgiving end up washing dishes in a bathroom sink into December. The cause was a door style chosen in July.
The one rule worth more than the rest of this page
Do not let anyone demolish the old kitchen until the new cabinets are in the building and counted. Not ordered. Not shipped. Not on a truck. In the building, boxes opened, count matched against the list. Every horrible kitchen story starts the same way, with demolition happening first.
Five questions to ask a Fabuwood dealer before you sign
You do not need to know anything about cabinets to do this. You need five questions and the willingness to ask them before signing rather than after. Any competent dealer can answer all five in a couple of minutes. A dealer who cannot, or who treats the questions as rude, has told you something useful.
- What series and finish is this, exactly? Not “the white shaker”. The line name and the finish name, written down. Fabuwood finishes have specific names, and the difference between two similar whites can be the difference between stock and production.
- Is this finish one you already stock, or does it get built for my order? This is the actual question, and it is deliberately plain. Ask it in those words and the ambiguity disappears.
- What date will the cabinets be in your warehouse, and can that go on the order? A date on paper behaves differently from a date in conversation. If it cannot go on paper, ask why.
- If one cabinet in my order is short, does the whole order wait? Some dealers hold everything until the order is complete. Some ship what they have. Neither is wrong, but your installer needs to know which, because a partial delivery missing three wall cabinets is not a start.
- What happens if a door arrives damaged? Who files the claim, who pays freight on the replacement, and roughly how long the replacement takes. Damage in transit is normal and not a scandal. Being left to chase it yourself is the problem.
Question four catches more schedules than the other four combined, and almost nobody asks it. A twenty two box order with one backordered wall cabinet looks like a small problem on a spreadsheet and behaves like a total stop in a real kitchen, because the installer cannot hang half a run and come back.

Which Fabuwood cabinet series are stocked in Northern Virginia
Our Fairfax and Alexandria showrooms carry three of Fabuwood’s door lines: Allure, Value Premium and Quest. That is a deliberate selection rather than the full catalogue, and the reason is the subject of this whole page. Carrying fewer lines deeply is what makes a short lead time possible. Carrying every line shallowly would give you more to look at and less to take home.
The practical consequence is that these three are where the questions above are most likely to produce the answer you want. Arrive with a photograph of a Fabuwood finish from somewhere else, outside these lines, and we can still order it. We will also tell you plainly that you have moved into a different timeline.

The Fairfax showroom sits in the Merrifield area on Dorr Avenue. The Alexandria showroom is on General Washington Drive. Both stock assembled cabinets and ready to assemble, both carry Fabuwood and FIBO as an authorized dealer, and both open on Saturdays, which is when most people can actually get to a showroom.
One thing to do before you drive over: ring ahead and name the finish you want to see. Showroom displays rotate, and a five minute phone call saves a wasted Saturday if the exact door you came for is not currently on a board.
Fabuwood delivery across Northern Virginia, town by town
Two showrooms cover the region, and which one is nearer you is mostly a question of which side of the Beltway you sit on. Phone the one you think is closer and say where you are coming from. Whoever picks up will send you to the other showroom if that is the shorter trip, or tell you which of the two has your finish on a board today.
Closer to the Fairfax showroom
Dorr Avenue is the shorter run from Merrifield, Vienna, Oakton, Tysons, McLean and Falls Church, and it is the one most people use coming in from the Loudoun side, from Reston, Herndon, Sterling and Leesburg. Chantilly and Centreville run the same way.
Closer to the Alexandria showroom
General Washington Drive is the easier trip from Arlington, Annandale, Burke and the Route 1 corridor, and it is usually the better choice from Springfield, Lorton and Woodbridge.

Delivery arrangements depend on the size of the order and the format you have chosen, so ask when you order rather than assuming. Flat pack travels in a fraction of the space of assembled cabinets, which changes what is practical for a longer run out to Loudoun or Prince William.
What the Fabuwood dealer directory will not tell you
Search for Fabuwood and a place name and most of what comes back is Fabuwood’s own dealer directory. It is a useful thing and you should use it, for one specific purpose: confirming that whoever you are talking to is actually authorized. That check takes thirty seconds and it is real.
What a directory listing cannot tell you is everything this page is about. It is a name, an address and a phone number. It does not say which Fabuwood lines that dealer carries, what is on their racks this week, whether they stock assembled or flat pack, how they handle a partial shipment, or whether they will put a ship date on your order. Two dealers a mile apart with identical listings can behave completely differently on all six counts.
Use the directory to verify, then ask the five questions to decide. Being authorized is the floor, not the answer.

Assembled or flat pack, and what each does to your schedule
Both showrooms carry Fabuwood cabinets assembled and ready to assemble. The choice affects your timeline at both ends, in ways that are not obvious from a showroom floor.
Assembled cabinets arrive finished. The installer hangs them and that is the day’s work. They also take up far more space in transit and in your house, which matters more than people expect. Twenty assembled cabinets need somewhere to live for the days between delivery and installation, and a garage that seemed enormous fills up fast.
Flat pack ships in a fraction of the volume and stores in a spare room without drama. The trade is labour. Someone assembles every box. If that someone is you, be honest about the evenings involved before you commit. If it is your installer, ask whether their quote includes assembly time or treats it as an extra, because that answer varies and finding out afterwards is unpleasant.
On lead time the two are usually similar, though not always. A finish can be in stock in one format and not the other. Name the format alongside the finish when you ask question two.

Lead time is one of two things that can quietly add weeks to a Northern Virginia kitchen. The other is the permit line, and you want to know where it falls before you finalise a layout.
In Fairfax County, replacing kitchen cabinets and countertops in place requires no building permit. The county lists it plainly as exempt work. Moving a plumbing, gas or electrical fixture does require one, because the exemption for direct replacement applies only where there is no change in location. Sliding the sink three feet to centre it under a window changes what kind of project you are running, and it adds a permit, an inspection and a schedule that did not exist before.
It belongs on this page because both decisions get made in the same conversation. You choose a layout and a door style in one sitting, and each of those choices sets a date.
